Louis XV gold Louis d'Or Mirliton 1724-B AU Details (Saltwater Damage) NGC, Rouen mint, KM470.2, Gad-339 (R2), Dup-1638. Large palms variety. One of a mere 4 representatives of this mint-date we have been able to locate coming to auction in recent years, and a piece which presents a very odd die particularity. Whereas the top of the L's in the reverse monogram typically end in a curve, here, the top of the left L can be seen to end in a full loop. Certainly a piece worthy of future research as such, and a series rarity in general.
