Louis XV gold Louis d'Or Mirliton 1724-V AU55 NGC, Troyes mint, cf. KM470.20 (date unlisted), Gad-339 (R2), Dup-1638, L4L-466 (R2). Large palms variety. By all indications a very fleeting mint-date combination in the series, and one entirely unrecorded in the Standard Catalog of World Coins. Though only assigned an R2 rarity by Gadoury and Les monnaies des quatre Rois Louis, we would note that no 1724 Mirliton from Troyes was present in either the Partrick Collection or the 1971 Parke-Bernet sale, with this date further missing from sales records of the last 2 decades. Indeed, the last specimen we have been able to locate was in the Ford Collection (Part XIII, lot 441), which appears to have been struck from different dies. Sold with old dealer tag.
