Louis XV gold Louis d'Or Mirliton 1724-Z MS61 NGC, Grenoble mint, KM470.24, Gad-339 (R2), Dup-1638. Large palms variety. A notoriously popular mint for any of the gold issues of the "quatre Louis," particularly when located for this only two-year type. Far outstripping the Ford specimen in overall preservation--with this mint-date missing from the Partrick Collection--we would note that the highest grade yet awarded by NGC is only an MS62 by comparison. Very likely near the upper reaches of its assigned grade, all Mirliton in fully lustrous, Mint State condition are rare. Just the second specimen we have offered, the last (MS62) bringing $3,290 in January 2017.
