Louis XV gold Louis d'Or Mirliton 1725-G UNC Details (Saltwater Damage) NGC, Poitiers mint, cf. KM470.7 (this date unlisted), Gad-339 (unpriced), Dup-1638, L4L-466 (R5). Large palms variety. From the 1725 Le Chameau shipwreck. One of the rarest mints for this date, lacking from both the Parke-Bernet sale and the Partrick Collection, with no other examples having occurred at auction since the sale of this piece in 2006, according to our research. Displaying full-defined motifs and a marigold tone, only the most minor traces of encrustations exist in contained portions of the lettering, causing very little visual impact.
Ex. John J. Ford, Jr. Collection, Part XIII (Stack's January 2006, Lot 451)
