Louis XV gold Louis d'Or Mirliton 1725-Y UNC Details (Saltwater Damage) NGC, Bourges mint, cf. KM470.23 (this date unlisted), Breen-Unl., Gad-Unl., Dup-1638 (for type), L4L-Unl. Long palms variety. Highly covetable as a Mirliton issue from Bourges, but especially so having no instances of this date and mintmark combination published in the major French references. While NGC states the mintmark as V for Troyes, we note that the appearance of the "Y" and mintmaster mark of a heart and arrow clearly indicate a Bourges origin. No other example has come up for sale since this coin's first showing in the Ford Collection, whose listing states that this was altogether missing from the 1971 Parke-Bernet auction of Le Chameau shipwreck issues.
