Louis XV gold Louis d'Or 1736/5-W XF Details (Saltwater Damage) NGC, Lille mint, cf. KM489.22 (overdate unlisted), Gad-340 (R5; same), L4L-478 (R5; same). Louis d'Or aux lunettes. An already very impressive mint-date combination in its own right, let alone as an overdate, with the Standard Catalog reporting a mere 4,973 struck in this year. While the 6 over 5 is very easily visible even without magnification, the presence of an additional "tooth" of medal above the final digit may suggest a triple overdate, a rare feature known from some of Louis XV's Ecu's. The sole example we have been able to locate, with the 1736-W recorded as being of the highest rarity.
