ROMAN IMPERATORIAL. Julius Caesar. Died 44 B.C. AR denarius. 3.41 gm. 18 mm. Rome mint. L. Mussidius Longus, moneyer. Struck posthumously 42 B.C in the era after his assassination. Wreathed head of Caesar right / Rudder, cornucopia on globe, winged caduceus, and apex; [L • MVSSIDIV]S • LONGVS above. CRI 116. Crawford 494/39a. Sydenham 1096a. RSC 29. Extremely Fine; as struck; minty, fresh surfaces with beautiful deep cabinet toning, luster and iridescence; obverse double struck but with a clear portrait visible when tilted; reverse sharply struck but off center. Interesting propaganda piece highlighting Caesar's successes, and a pleasing piece with none of the surface problems that frequently plague his coins.
