LOWER DANUBE. Uncertain tribe. Circa 2nd-1st centuries BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 37 mm, 16.80 g, 11 h), imitating a tetradrachm of Alexander III of Macedon from Mesembria. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. ΒAΣIΛEΩ - AΛEΞANΔ Zeus seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and eagle standing right with closed wings in his right; in inner left field, Corinthian helmet above ΔA; below throne, monogram of ΠΥ. Cf. Price 1047 (for prototype). Nicely toned. Minor traces of overstriking and with light marks, otherwise, very fine.
