Roman Republic, Marc Antony, Denarius - ex. Demarete Collection, RARE

Rare and very well preserved Mark Antony denarius with the letter P behind the Emperor ear. This is the only known example of mint master engraving his initials on republican coin. This fact went unnoticed for centuries until it was first mentioned in the Santamaria sales catalog in 1920.

Presented specimen is from Demarete Collection. The Demarete collection is an old collection, collected over many decades, from the 1930s to the 1970s, by family of dedicated numismatists. Consisting primarily of world and ancient coins.

Rzadki i bardzo ładnie zachowany denar Marka Antoniusza z literą P za uchem Cesarza. Jest to jedyny znany przykład mincerza grawerującego swoje inicjały na monecie republikańskiej. Fakt ten pozostał niezauważony przez wieki, aż po raz pierwszy wskazano go w katalogu sprzedaży Santamaria w 1920 roku.
