Roman Imeprial, Octavian August, Denarius - EXTREMELY RARE

Extremely rare Octavian denarius with depiction on the reverse of the triumphal arch that Augustus received for his diplomatic success, resulting in the return of 54 Roman standards lost by Crassus. The triumphal arch was erected on the Roman Forum next to the temple of the deified Caesar. The appearance of the arch should be deduced from the numismatic record, as it is nowhere described in historical texts. Presented type of denarius is therefore an important archaeological document, allowing the reconstruction of an early Imperial monument, which has survived only thanks to the partial travertine foundations and some marble fragments placed on them in modern brick cradles.

There are only five listings on Coinarchives, including the one presented, which comes from the 26 Auction Gitbud & Naumann Auctions in 2014.

Ekstremalnie rzadki denar Oktawiana z przedstawieniem na rewersie łuku triumfalnego, który August otrzymał za swój sukces dyplomatyczny, doprowadzając do zwrotu 54 rzymskich sztandarów utraconych przez Krassusa. Łuk triumfalny stanął na Forum Romanum obok świątyni deifikowanego Cezara. Wygląd łuku należy wywnioskować z zapisu numizmatycznego, gdyż nie jest on nigdzie opisany w tekstach historycznych. Prezentowany typ denara jest więc ważnym dokumentem archeologicznym, pozwalającym na rekonstrukcję wczesnocesarskiego zabytku, który zachował się jedynie dzięki częściowym fundamentom trawertynowym i niektórym fragmentom marmuru, które zostały umieszczone na nich w nowoczesnych kolebkach ceglanych.
