FRANCE. Restoration of the Mint of Medals Silver Medal, 1804. Napoleon I. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, Unc Details.

Bramsen-380. Diameter: 38 mm. By Andrieu. Obverse: FACTIS PROROGAT AEVVUM / MDCCCIV., Screw press between two standing female figures, one writing on a tablet while a mint worker's tools lie at the feet of the other; Reverse: Two laurel branches form a wreath around an empty field. A RARE and esoteric numismatic medal that celebrates the resumption of medal striking in Paris once the city had recovered from political turmoil. Miniscule hairlines are responsible for the designation, though fields retain their consistent and original brilliant sheen.

Napoleon I gained de facto control after orchestrating a coup d'état in 1799, but he did not choose to be coronated as Eemperor of the French until 1804.

Estimate: $200 - $300
