Made by the French mint in 1987 in honor of the Cannes film festival, this medal sparked a minor international copyright dispute. A Los Angeles based attorney claimed the French mint was violating the copyright of the holders of Monroe's likeness, forcing the end of production of this medal. Consequently, these types are infrequently encountered and hold a wonderful story.
