Eimer-800. Obverse: Ship left being torn asunder by the waves; Reverse: Fleet of warships engaged in battle with Gibraltar in the background. This medal commemorates the Great Siege of Gibraltar, an excursion by France and Spain to attempt a recapture of Gibraltar from the British. The British lifted the over 3 year siege when Admiral Richard Howe ran the blockade and relieved the besieged Garrison in 1782, portending the impending British victory in spring of 1783. This example provides a great strike and touches of mint red, and was treasured by its prior owners, accounting from the lack of friction or handling evident on this piece.
