GREAT BRITAIN. Transatlantic Flight of Alcock and Brown Bronze Medal, 1919. Grade: EXTREMELY FINE Details.
Obverse: "First Non-Stop Transatlantic Flight June 14th 1919", Airplane; Reverse: "The Dauntless Two Capt. John Alcock Lt. A.W. Brown". Contrary to popular belief, Charles Lindberg did not fly the first non-stop transatlantic flight, rather the duo of Alcock and Brown achieved the feat in 1919 flying from St. John's, Newfoundland to Clifden, Ireland. Alcock would die in a flying accident later in 1919. Eight years later, Lindberg would undertake the first solo transatlantic flight that is now more famous than the prior journey of Alcock and Brown. This medal gives good detail, but does appear to have spent some time in the ground with evidence of pitting and verdigris. An interesting piece of history.
Estimate: $30 - $50
