IRELAND. Gun Money 1/2 Crown, 1690 (July). Limerick Mint. James II. PCGS AU-55.
S-6580e; KM-101. An attractive example of the "gun money" type, so-called because it was alleged cannons were melted for manufacture for these coins. Produced during the Williamite War, these types were to be redeemed for silver coinage once James II was reinstalled on the English throne. The present example has only light evidence of circulation and retains an original brassy color that is seldom seen, with this example being the finest piece that PCGS has ever certified.
Estimate: $200 - $400
