KM-277. A bold eagle countermark on an extremely worn Real of Charles IV (visible on the reverse). The countermark grades VF Details, and the host is damaged, due to the application of seven small piercings around the border of the countermark.

According to the SCWC as well as other major references on this subject these particular countermarks are thought to have been issued by General Vicente Guerrero, leader of the insurgents of the south, 1816-1821. However, due to the lack of contemporary documentation this is speculative.
