MEXICO. Mint Error -- Struck on Silver Planchet -- 20 Pesos, "2019" (2021)-Mo. Mexico City Mint. PCGS MS-64.
KM-unlisted (struck over cf. KM-694). Centennial of Emilio Zapata Salazar's death commemorative (dated 2019, minted 2021) struck over the 180th Anniversary of the Federation, Sonora commemorative 100 Pesos (2004). Produced using the punched-out silver center of a 2004 commemorative, this improbable error is almost certainly the result of mint sport. The devious mint worker would have desired a silver planchet sized to fit inside the striking chamber for 20 Pesos, and he cleverly retrieved one from the center of an old commemorative. Barely identifiable as a Sonora commemorative, just enough of the original design and legend remain that we can tentatively reach this improbable conclusion. A striking piece in its own right, it is perfectly suited for both intermediate and advanced Mexican error collectors.
Estimate: $200 - $400
