MEXICO. Mint Error -- Struck on Stainless Steel 5 Pesos Inner Punch and Outer Ring -- 10 Pesos, 2021-Mo. Mexico City Mint. PCGS MS-66.
cf. KM-616. Recently escaped from the Mexico City Mint, this eye-catching 10 Pesos was struck on a stainless steel center and outer ring intended for 5 Pesos production. Though the center is usually removed and replaced with aluminum-bronze, somehow it remained with the outer ring before ending up in a 10 Pesos minting press. A groove still exists where the two were initially separated. Some weakness can be spotted on the eagle's breast and in the center of the Aztec sun stone, a result of the hard stainless steel being shaped by a press with striking pressure intended for more malleable compositions. A RARE offering bound to excite the specialist.
Estimate: $150 - $300
