MEXICO. Mint Error -- Struck on 10 Pesos Planchet -- Peso, 2019-Mo. Mexico City Mint. PCGS MS-67.
cf. KM-603. Likely the result of mint sport, this captivating off-planchet piece defies the norms of error collecting. A press intended for Pesos had its collar removed so that a larger type II 10 Pesos planchet could be inserted and struck with the smaller dies. The Peso strike is not completely centered, with some of the legend and devices creeping into the aluminum-bronze outer ring of the bimetallic 10 Pesos planchet. However, there is still a reasonably accurate graphic match between the copper-nickel core and the Peso strike. An intensely crisp strike coupled with blazing cartwheel luster makes this piece remain true to the lofty Superb Gem grade assigned by PCGS. We seldom have the privilege to present Mexican errors of this caliber for sale, and we can highly recommend this piece for the dedicated specialist.
