KM-44. A seldom encountered piece, this interesting example displays a bold strike and lightly handled surfaces on the slightly oblong flan. A wonderful piece for those looking to find examples from interesting issuing authorities to a build a "one from every country" collection.
Shahin Giray was the last Khan of Crimea, a vasal state of the Ottoman Empire, which accounts for the Islamic script and dating on this piece. Later forced into exile by both Imperial Russia and the Ottoman Empire, he was executed by the Ottomans to prevent him claiming the Turkish throne.
