Presenting chocolate brown surfaces with a great matte nature, this elegant and ever-popular type was issued as the official prize medal for the Chicago Expo held in conjunction with the 400th anniversary of the Columbian discovery of America.
According to The Inland Architect and News Record (vol. XXII, August 1893), "a large number of foreign architects whose work has been conspicuous and excellent have been awarded medals..." including "...Rector Karl Spatz, [of] Kaisersentern, [for] architecture and decorations [for the] Strumm exhibit."
