This hefty lead piece belongs to a group popularly categorized as the "Serie de las Minas " (Series of the Mines), due to a single example being found in the El Maerero mine. Other pieces from the series with more detailed Latin legends have been demonstrated to be related to the production and trade of olive oil, and it is likely that other early Spanish lead pieces, such as the present example, were also involved in that industry.
