JUDAEA, Ascalon. Pseudo-autonomous issue. Time of Augustus, 27 BC-AD 14. Æ (16mm, 3.04 g, 12h). Struck late 1st century BCE. Bare male head right / Prow of galley left with oars. Rosenberger 79; RPC I 4873; Sofaer 47. Red-brown surfaces, spots of green. VF. Very rare, none at CoinArchives.

From the Dr. Jay M. Galst Collection. Ex Coin Galleries (14 April 1999), lot 303.

The authors of the Sofaer collection name the obverse portrait as that of Augustus but neither Rosenberger or the RPC team are certain of that attribution. BMC notes "(Augustus?)"
