JUDAEA, Ascalon. Pseudo-autonomous issue. Time of Augustus, 27 BC-AD 14. Æ (15mm, 3.17 g, 11h). Struck late 1st century BCE. Bare male head right / Prow of galley left with oars. Rosenberger 79; RPC I 4873; Sofaer 47. Sandy green and red surfaces. Near VF. Very rare, none at CoinArchives.
From the Dr. Jay M. Galst Collection.
The authors of the Sofaer collection name the obverse portrait as that of Augustus but neither Rosenberger or the RPC team are certain of that attribution. BMC notes "(Augustus?)"
