Sovereign 1824 Proof or prooflike both sides with the fields mirror like the designs sharp and crisply struck and with a frosted appearance, interestingly the D of F.D. obverse has the top and bottom missing and appears almost as II, also some of the linear circle broken or missing. No proof strikes are listed in Marsh or Rasmussen, but this coin is obviously not a business strike, rare and highly unusual with the proof striking and die faults perhaps a trial of and subsequently unused die, some hairlines otherwise Choice with spectacular eye appeal. The 1825 Laureate head issue has similar die characteristics broken D and linear circle breaks suggesting this coin is a mule with the obverse die of the 1825 Laureate Head and reverse of the standard 1824 coin, so possibly a VIP issue or Late Mint Striking and presumably unique
