Sweden, Oskar II Bronze medal, 60 mm, 100.30 g. Obv: Oscar II, dated for his 60th Birthday 21 Jan 1889. Reverse with scientist and Globe with "H Poincaré" at bottom, and legend NVNQVAN PRAESCRIPTOS TRANSIBVNT SIDERA FINES. Engraved by A. Lindberg.This medal appears to be commemorating a Mathematical competition that Oscar II sponsored which was announced in 1885, and in 1888 the deadline for submissions was reached. Eventually in 1889 the winner, H. Poincaré was announced. This medal is very rare and we cannot find any examples sold, only one example in Uppsala University Coin Cabinet (inventory number 205447). 01
