Sweden, Johan III SM 145 4 öre 1592 (klippe) 3.28 g. Stockholm. The very rare 4 öre klippe 1592 has been missing in many important collections such as: Scharp 1851, Snoilsky 1873, Stiernstedt 1880, Wedberg 1912, Bruun 1914, de Laval 1941, Bonde 2007-2010, Ekström 1975-1987, Schmitz 1989, Törngren 2000 and more. We can only find the following sales of this rare coin: 1) Ex Levin 1894, Bukowski auction 88, lot 1130, a very worn example bought by the Swedish Central Bank (Riksbanken). 2) Ex Oldenburg 1898, Bukowski auction 113, lot 938. Bonnier was the buyer, however we cannot find this coin in any of the subsequent auctions where Bonnier disposed of his extensive collection. It is possible that Svensson acquired the coin privately from Bonnier. If so it is Ex Svensson (SS 1585) which today is housed in The Royal Coin Cabinet of Sweden. 3) Ex Nordqvist 1899, Bukowski auction 125, lot 554. A very worn example. 4) Ex. Gorny & Mosch Auction 201 (2011) lot 5402. (Now in a private collection in Sweden). In a "Frequency and search list" for Johan III coinage published in Numismatiskt Forum no 2 in year 2000, there are no sales reported. The present example is likely one of two or three in private hands. Corroded. RRR. SMB 166. 1?)(1/1+
