PONTOS. Amisos. Time of Mithradates VI Eupator, circa 85-65 BC. (Bronze, 20 mm, 7.70 g, 1 h). Head of youthful Dionysos to right, wearing ivy wreath. Rev. ΑΜΙΣΟΥ Cista mystic with a panther's skin and a thyrsos; in fields to left and right, monograms. HGC 7, 243. RG 24. SNG BM Black Sea 1201. Dark green-brown patina with light earthen highlights around the devices. Nearly extremely fine.

Although a very common issue struck at Amisos while Mithradates VI was king of Pontos, the centering and strike on this coin is superior to that found on most. It is truly a very pleasing example.
