TROAS. Skepsis. Circa 400-310 BC. (Bronze, 12 mm, 1.34 g, 12 h). Rhyton in the form of a forepart of a winged horse or Pegasos to left. Rev. Σ-ΚH Fir tree; to right, kantharos. SNG Ashmolean 1207. SNG Munich 330. Brown patina with attractive earthen highlights. Good very fine.
A rhyton was a horn-like drinking vessel or cup, usually terminating in an animal form. It was peculiar thing since it could not be set down without tipping over and spilling its contents.
