BYZANTINE SEALS. Theophano, Circa 12th century. Seal or Bulla (Lead, 19 mm, 6.19 g, 12 h), Constantinople (?). MHP-ΘY Facing bust of the Virgin Mary, orans, wearing chiton and maphorion, bearing a medallion with a facing bust of the infant Jesus Christ. Rev. ΘKE BΘ/ TH CH ΔOYΛ/ ΘEOΦANΩ / CEBAC/TH (Virgin Mary please aid your servant, sebaste Theophano) in five lines within simple dotted border. Possibly unpublished and in wonderful condition. Earthen highlights, otherwise, very fine.
