ISLAMIC, Arab-Sasanian. 'Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan, AH 65-86 / AD 685-705. Drachm (Silver, 29 mm, 3.91 g, 3 h), DA P (Fasā) mint, Dated YE 60 = AH 71/2 / AD 691/2. Crowned and draped bust in the Sasanian style of Khosrau II to right; behind head, 'may his kingship increase' in Pahlawi); before head, 'Abd al-Malik, Commander of the Faithful' in Pahlawi; in margin, 'bism allāh' and pellets above star-in-crescents; triple pellets flanking lowest star-in-crescent. Rev. Fire altar flanked by attendants; star and crescent flanking flames. Album 32. SICA 1, 273 var. (Pahlavi "P" to left of altar). Well centered and toned. Extremely fine.
