TABARISTAN. 'Abbasid governors. AH 170-193 / AD 786-809. Hemidrachm (Silver, 24 mm, 1.49 g, 3 h), under the governor Mihrān, PYE 135 / AH 170 (= AD 786/7) A. GDH 'pzwz (may his splendor increase) mhrān (Governor's name) to the left; on the margins: 'pd (excellent) to right and nywk' (good) to left. Sasanian-style bust to right, wearing winged crown; stars flanking crown and breast ornament decorated with star and three pellets. Rev. Date on the left - Tpwlst'n (Tabaristan) on the left field Sasanian-style fire altar flanked by two attendants; pellet and star flanking flames. Album 62. Malek 92.4. Very rare. This governor is exclusively known from coins. Good extremely fine.
