Nero. AD 54-68. Æ As (26mm, 12.32 g, 7h). Rome mint. Struck circa AD 65. Laureate head left / Temple of Janus with latticed window to left and closed doors to right. RIC I 306 or 307. VF, light brown patina, slight edge bend.

The temple doors were only closed when there was peace all over the Roman world: that did not happen very often. We know that they were closed twice during the reign of Augustus and, in 66 after Corbulo's defeat of the Parthians; Nero was the only emperor to show the temple on his coins and it seems likely thatthe doors were mostly kept shut even in times of war
