Hafs, before 800, AE fals (1.23g), NM, ND, A-U4511, kalima divided between obverse & reverse, bism Allah mimma amara bihi 'umar bin hafs in reverse margin, no other text, second known specimen (the first was Lot 750 in our Auction 41), historically very important, F-VF, RRR. According to the 9th century historian Baladhuri, 'Umar b. Hafs was named governor of Sind immediately before Da'ud b. Yazid (whose silver dammas are common), approximately AH184, which began on 4 February 800 AD. There are no silver coins known in the name of 'Umar b. Hafs.
