Skotussa. Circa 394-367 BC. Trihemiobol (Silver, 11mm, 0.93 g 1). Laureate head of Herakles to right, with lion skin tied around his shoulders Rev. ΣΚΟΤΟΥ - [Σ]ΑΙΩΝ Hekate standing facing, her head turned to left, holding long torch in her right hand and resting her left at her waist. BCD II, 756. Traité IV, 629 and pl. CCXCV, 8. Very rare. Slightly rough surfaces. Very fine.

The late silver fractions of Skotussa are remarkably rare. This may well be due to the fact that silver denominations below the hemidrachm had stopped being issued in the late 3rd century, and that existing pieces were probably then being withdrawn from circulation all over Greece. Perhaps they remained popular in Skotussa and, thus, continued circulating there for much longer than elsewhere.
