Attica

Athens. Circa 449-404 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 22mm, 16.88 g 3), late 450s-440s BC. Head of Athena to right, wearing crested Attic helmet adorned with three olive leaves and palmette, round earring and pearl necklace. Rev. ΑΘΕ Owl standing right, head facing; behind, olive spray and crescent moon; all within incuse square. Cf. Starr pl. 22, passim and Svoronos pl. 12, 1-11 var. An attractive piece, toned and well struck. Some surface roughness, otherwise, about extremely fine.
