GREEK COINS
Dynasts of Lycia
Khinakha. Circa 460-440 BC. Stater (Silver, 19mm, 9.82 g), Uncertain mint in eastern Lycia. Pegasos flying left on round shield. Rev. Triskeles with large annulet at the center; between the arms, pellet and monogram. Babelon -. Müseler/Nollé IV, 75. Peus 407, 726 (same dies). A rare variant. Well centered and well struck. Extremely fine.
From a northern European collection, acquired in the United States.
The fact that the obverse type of Pegasos is clearly depicted on a shield emphasizes his status as a badge, probably for this specific Dynast.
