Dynasts of Lycia
Perikles. Circa 380-360 BC. Stater (Silver, 21mm, 9.76 g 9), Antiphellos, c. 380-375. Bearded head of Perikle facing, turned slightly to left and with his hair in dramatic disarray. Rev. PARIKLA Vähñtäz, (in Lycian script). Warrior, nude but for his helmet, advancing right, brandishing sword with his right hand and holding oval shield with his left; to right, above, triskeles; to right, below, whelk. Olçay-Mørkholm 397-401, A1-P3 (same dies). A rare variety. Toned and with a splendid portrait. Some striking flatness, otherwise, extremely fine.
