ROMAN AND BYZANTINE COINS

Octavian and Divus Julius Caesar. 36 BC. Dupondius (Bronze, 31mm, 20.89 g 7), Copia = Lugdunum. IMP CAESAR DIVI F DIVI IVLI Two heads back to back: laureate head of Divus Julius Caesar to left and bare head of Octavian to right; between them palm branch with its tip bent to right over Octavian's head. Rev. COPIA Prow of galley to right, ornamented with an eye and a dolphin; above, star on globe and meta. RPC 515. Struck on a cast flan with faults. Attractive green patina but with some smoothing. Very fine.
