Cuthred (798-807) Kings of Kent, Penny, Portrait issue, cross and wedges type (805-807), Canterbury mint, moneyer Eaba, diademed and draped bust right breaking solid inner circle, King's tunic consisting of four vertical bars and two horizontal bars either side, reads +CVÐRED REX CANT, contraction bar above T. Rev, +EABA MONETA, uncial m, around solid inner circle containing cross pattée with wedges in angles, 1.32g (S.877; N.211; cf. Naismith C31a-C31r, Plate 18-19). A well centred example struck with a rusty obverse die, a little porous, portrait pleasing showing up all the fundamental lines. Rev, excellent rendition of the moneyer and mint name, slight edge loss at 4-5 o'clock. Very fine, very rare.
