Æthelstan I (c.825-45), Kings of East Anglia, Penny, non-portrait coinage, Ipswich?, moneyer Torhthelm. 'A' with two horizontal bars above, flanked by two pellets all contained within linear circle, legend surrounds EDEL?TA•N•I. Rev, cross pattée, with wedges in angles, reads TORHTHELM, M of moneyers name stylised,1.38g (S.950; N.441; Naismith E40.2 variant with inner circle on obverse). Lightly toned with a fully centred strike, set out on a broad and symmetrical flan, free from any chips or ragged edges, on good metal. The obverse legends legible with an impressive central 'A' design within the linear circle. Reverse, boldly struck, slight scratching in the letter L for moneyers name. About extremely fine for issue, excessively rare.
