Harthacnut (1035-42), Penny, Sole reign [1040-42] in the name of Canute, Stamford mint, moneyer Svart, diademed bust left with arm and sceptre, legend reads +CNVT RECX. Rev, quadrilateral with a central pellet, pellets on apexes set out over a short voided cross, contained within inner linear circle, reads +SPERT ON STANFO:, 0.61g (S.1169; N.799; SCBI 15 [Copenhagen], 3656). Attractive tone with an excellent portrait and legible legends. Few carbon spots, flan marginally undulating. Extremely fine with much eye appeal, a complete example and a great representation of the Sole reign type utilising Canute's name. Rare as a type, very rare so well preserved.
