Norwich mint, moneyer Thorfrithr, bust facing left holding sceptre tipped with four pellets, legend reads +EDPN:.RD REX. Rev, short cross voided with expanded limbs joined at the base by two circles, legend surrounds +ĐORFORĐ O NORĐD, 1.01g (S.1176. N.820/Bust A; BMC.V; cf. SCBI 18 [Copenhagen], 1141). Lightly toned with underlying mint brilliance around the periphery, fully centred strike with a clear portrait and legible legends. Rev, short cross motif visible, legends clear, few areas of softness. Some metal stress striations and annealing flaws from the initial strike. Good very fine, an excellent example. Very rare in the light issue, normally seen in the heavy variant.

The EMC/SCBI has one coin with this moneyer in the light issue of the Expanding Cross type and a further seven in the heavy issue. The output for Norwich appears to be for the heavy issues with larger flans weighing between c.1.40-£1.70g. The lighter issue types are set out on a smaller fl an and tend to weight approximately between 1.10-£1.30g.
