John (1199-1216). Penny, London mint, moneyer Adam, crowned facing portrait within linear circle, sceptre at left, legend surrounds from 11 o'clock, HENRICVS REX. Rev, voided short cross, cross of four pellets in each angle within beaded circle, reads +ADAM.ON,LVNDE, 1.33g (S.1352; N.971; Mass 1688, plate 63). A darkly toned well centred example, struck with slightly rusty dies, clear legends with an impressive and full portrait. Good very fine.
