Charles I (1625-49), Gold Crown of Five Shillings, Tower mint, group A, Class I, broader first crowned bust left, jewelled outer arches on crown, value in field behind, inner beaded circles, mintmark lis both sides (1625), pellet stops in legend, reads CAROLVS DG MA BR FR ET HI REX. Rev, crowned quartered rectangular shield of arms, with light garniture, beaded circle surrounding, reads CVLTORES SVI DEVS PROTEGIT, 2.33g (S.2710; N.2179; Brooker 183; Schneider). Lightly toned on a broad if not slightly irregular flan, same dies as Brooker coin with the MA for MAG legend. Very fine and rare, a charming piece of House of Stuart Gold.
