Charles I (1625-49), Halfcrown, Tower Mint, group 3a1, King on horseback left with scarf flying from waist, sword upright, larger horse, mintmark tun (1636-38), legend surrounds CAROLVS DG MA BR FR ET HI REX. Rev, oval scroll garnished shield of arms, reads CHRISTO AVSPICE REGNO, 14.85g (S.2773; N.2209; Brooker 336). Some annealing flaws, normal for the type, weakly struck in the central regions of horse, otherwise well detailed, legends legible with the exception of two soft spots, reflected on the reverse. Rev, shield comprehensive. Bold fine for issue, retaining much of its mint lustre.
Bought Michael Trenerry (dealer), with ticket.
Ex. Prestbury Hoard
