Charles I (1625-49), Shilling, Tower mint, group B, type 1a, Lightweight issue, [struck 14th August – 7th September, 1626] mintmark cross calvary, crowned bust left in ruff, armour and mantle, value behind, reads CAROLVS D G MAG BR FR ET HIB REX, double pellet stops. Rev, square-topped shield over long cross fourchée, legend surrounds CHRISTO AVSPICE REGNO, 5.25g (S.2784; N.2218; Sharp B1/1). Set out on a slightly irregular flan with legible legends, one soft area as a result of the eastern flan edge. Portrait impressive as is the reverse coat of arms. Nearly very fine, a very rare lightweight type.
