Charles I (1625-49), Shilling, Tower Mint, Group D, fourth bust, type 3.1 with falling lace collar, inner circles, double arched crown left, value in field behind, mintmark harp, legend surrounds CAROLVS DG MA BR FR ET HI REX. Rev, oval shield garnished quartered shield of arms in frame, CR either side, reads CHRISTO AVSPICE REGNO 6.06g (S.2789; N.2223; Sharp D2/1; Brooker 475). Light grey cabinet tone with some residual mint brilliance in the periphery, a fetching portrait of the King with some weakness in the bottom end of the falling lace collar. Rev, adequately struck with a corresponding soft patch above the harp, some annealing flaws Very fine, much eye appeal.
