Charles I (1625-49), Shilling, Tower Mint, Group D, fourth bust, type 3.1 with falling lace collar, with inner circles, double arched crown left, smaller mark of value in field behind, mintmark portcullis, legend surrounds CAROLVS DG MAG BR FR ET HI REX. Rev, oval shield garnished quartered shield of arms in frame, CR either side, reads CHRISTO AVSPICE REGNO, 5.90g (S.2789; N.2223; Sharp D4/1; cf. Brooker 481). Well struck imposing bust with consistent detail in the hair, some annealing fissures and a small flan flaw to the west of the Kings proile, legends generally legible with few soft spots. Rev, bold coat of arms, few soft areas. Very fine, well struck.
