Charles I (1625-49), Shilling, Tower Mint, Group D, fourth bust type 3a, no inner circles, double arched crown left, value in field behind, mintmark tun, legend surrounds CAROLVS DG MA BR FR ET HI REX. Rev, oval shield garnished quartered shield of arms in frame, no CR either side, reads CHRISTO AVSPICE REGNO 5.87g (S.2791; N.2225; Sharp E3/2; Brooker 509). Lightly toned with residual mint lustre around the legends, a proficient portrait, few metal stress striations in the western field. Rev, struck with a fresh die, some doubling. Good very fine, with a somewhat weak strike to the obverse.
